Project Highlights
Data Dashboard for IT Ticket Visualization
Working with the IT system administrator and helpdesk manager, I brought live data from our helpdesk ticketing system into Power BI using a custom SQL query. Then, I created a custom dashboard to highlight ticket completion by person, category, date, and type.
Secular Equilibrium
Following the guidance from the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP), using the R programming language, I applied a statistical test for equivalence and interpreted the results to determine if radionuclide decay chains were in secular equilibrium. Additionally, I applied the Gilbert Toolbox suite of tests to determine if the concentration values were significantly different from background levels.
Decision Tree for Student Retention Prediction
Using institutional data from a custom-built SQL query and python machine learning libraries, I created and tuned a retention model that performed better than the historical average at predicting student retention. I spent time optimizing feature selection, balancing the Type I and II error trade-off, and evaluating the performance on test data. I tested several models including a neural network, logistic regression, and a random forest. The decision tree was chosen for its interpretability and simplicity. Throughout this process, I collaborated with several coworkers across departments and presented my findings to key stakeholders.
